Education in Lesotho

The Ministry of Education and Training is responsible for the development of Lesotho education. Education in Lesotho has undergone vast changes allowing it to provide free, universal education. The system is compulsory only between the ages of 6 and 13. Secondary school is non-compulsory with a gender disparity of more females attending than males. Teaching is in Sesotho with additional instruction in English.

National University of Lesotho International School was set up in the early 1960s. It is one of the many institutions under the National University of Lesotho and is located within the main campus of the university. The Primary School Leaving Examination is offered to the students of 1st to 7th standard. Students from 8th to 11th standard can sit for the IGCSE.
