The educational curriculum is planned by Kosovo's Ministry of Education. Education begins at 6 years old, and is free and mandatory. The primary education ranges from grades 1-5. The second phase is obligatory for children from 12-15 years of age, or grades 6-9. The lower secondary education is held in the five official languages of Kosovo: Albanian, Serbian, Turkish, Croatian, and Bosnian.
